Mathematical modelling of the foot and mouth disease epidemic of 2001: strengths and weaknesses.

چکیده
IN 2001 an epidemic of foot and mouth disease (FMD) occurred in the UK. This was the first large outbreak since 1967, when 2364 farms were infected. The disease was diagnosed and confirmed on 20th February 2001 and a ban on the movement of livestock was introduced three days later. Investigations indicate that the first affected farm was infected approximately 10–14 days before 20th February. As a consequence of the delay in identification of diseased animals and the delay in preventing movement of all livestock after confirmation that the foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) was present in the UK, 70 farms throughout England were infected on the day that control measures were introduced. A detailed description of the further spread and control of FMDV can be read in Gibbens et al (2001).

Optimal Control of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Model using Variational Iteration Method
In this paper, the optimal control of transmission dynamics of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), formulated by a compartmental deterministic SEIPR (Susceptible-Incubation (Exposed)- Infected - Post infection virus shedding - Recovered) model with vaccination and treatment as control parameters is considered. The objective function is based on the combination of minimizing the number of infec...

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is a contagious animal disease that causes irreparable damage to the economy of countries, including Iran in which this disease is a native one. Among the ways to combat FMD are vaccination and slaughter. Due to the specific situation of Iran, it is not possible to kill infected animals. Therefore, vaccination is the most important way to fight this disease. S...

Effect of data quality on estimates of farm infectiousness trends in the UK 2001 foot-and-mouth disease epidemic.
Most of the mathematical models that were developed to study the UK 2001 foot-and-mouth disease epidemic assumed that the infectiousness of infected premises was constant over their infectious periods. However, there is some controversy over whether this assumption is appropriate. Uncertainty about which farm infected which in 2001 means that the only method to determine if there were trends in...
